About Long Island Cares
Long Island Cares, the Harry Chapin Food Bank, distributes food to more than five hundred and forty hunger-relief programs such as food pantries and soup kitchens in Nassau and Suffolk counties. They are the sole contracted distributor for both the N.Y. State Department of Health HPNAP (Hunger Prevention and Nutrition Assistance Program) and the United States Department of Agriculture TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program) in their service area. They also operate the First Stop Food Pantry, located in their headquarters, to provide food assistance direct to individuals and families. The First Stop Food Pantry is open from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Friday, and serves those who are experiencing their first hunger emergency.
